Project Instructions:
Attached is a drawing of the foot lockers and a cut plan, thanks to Kesh. Below is a list of the teams, with the shop owner listed first. I have all the hardware, screws, and handles for the 50 lockers. I will have them at the tool swap Saturday. Teams are to make 6 lockers from three sheets of ¾” cabinet grade plywood. The plywood is only available at Home Depot, usually in the front of the plywood aisle, and costs about $36 each.
For security reasons, the hasp and hinges attach to the underside of the lid. The front and back pieces should be notched for the hasp and hinges so that the lid sits flat on the front, back, and sides. Notches are about 1.5” x 1/8”. The hinges attach to the outside of the back; use security screws provided for this.
Each team will receive 36 security screws, a security screw bit, 36 #8 x ¾” screws for attaching the hinges to the underside of the lid, 12 hinges, 6 hasps with screws, 12 handles, 36 x 1 5/8 deck screws for attaching handles, and 24 glides for the bottom on the lockers.
Joinery is planned to be butt joints, glued and brad nailed (use lots of nails).
O’Brien House will paint these. We should fill any voids and nail holes and round over the corners.
There is no schedule, but I hope we will all be complete before the June meeting. Please keep receipts for all you buy for this project. When your lockers are completed, email to me a copy of your receipts for reimbursement.
Also, here is the layout to make 2 boxes from 1 sheet of plywood:
