[Educational Outreach Event] WBRM Blast From the Past Summer Camp 2019, June 20 & 27
If you would like to take part of this event, you are welcome to just show up at the event.
Organization: West Baton Rouge Museum,
Event: Blast From the Past Summer Camp 2019,
Dates: Jun. 20 & 27, 2019,
Time: 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM,
Location: 845 N Jefferson Ave., Port Allen, LA 70767,
Signed-Up Participants: Lee Owens, Keith Bryan, Wayne Matherne, Brian Fitzgerald
Planned Activity:
We will be building pine wood derby cars with the campers. This sorta fits into the theme of the camp, “From first flight to the lunar landing.” Areodynamics, motion, building, engineering, etc., take your pick. I think they will be racing them on Friday if they can get a track.
Keith and I have cut the wedge shaped blocks for the body. The museum will have the wheels and axles. It is a simple matter for them to nail in the axles with the wheels. We will have about 30 minutes with each group, so there will be time for sanding shaping the block, adding weights to get the 5 oz max and “decoration.”
Tools to Bring:
If you have any of the following, please bring.
- Hot glue gun
- Hammer (light weight is fine)
- Sanding blocks
- Small block plane
- Scale that can read 5 oz pretty close
