  • Vice-President – George Campagna- The field trip to Gator Millworks is scheduled for April 26, 10:00 am. 17 people have signed up to attend. If you haven’t signed up and want to go let me (George) know. Gator has asked for a list in advance so they can make nametags. The location for the May meeting has changed. It will be held at the West Baton Rouge Museum. Brian Stauss will do a demonstration on pen turning. We need a presenter for the July meeting. Cedric Broussard was going to do it but has had to cancel because of illness. The meeting was going to be at Cedric’s shop but that has had to change. It is now going to be at the Rural Life Museum.
  • Secretary – Harold Choate- We had 22 members attend the March meeting at David Ringuette’s shop. I want to remind you guys to send me pictures of projects you’re doing or tools you’ve acquired to post on Facebook.
  • Treasurer – Rick Albrecht- contact Rick for details.
  • Webmaster – Open
  • Community Service – Lee Owens- Let’s hear reports on the status of Chest of Drawers for O’Brien House. Jackie Parker- I’ve gotten started. One problem I encountered was keeping the case square. I added corner braces to address this problem. I hope to be finished by May 1. Cody Henderson is making good progress. His team partner has not showed up to help. George Campagna and Rick Albrecht have finished their chests and will be calling Monday to arrange delivery on Wednesday. George Cenac we have good progress. We’re working on the drawers. Ken Brown- Hal Canning make the cases and assembled them. Hal was injured in an accident and won’t be able to work on the chests for a couple of months so Harold Choate is going to help finish them. I’m going to do the finish work. We hope to deliver them in April. Harold Choate- Clarence and I delivered our chests about 2 weeks ago. Dale Ragel we have parts made and are in the process of assembling the chests. Brian Stauss is absent. Lee Owens and Jack Carmena delivered their chests about 2 months ago. Art Miller and Robert Cheramie delivered their chests a week or so ago. We had a little trouble with the drawer guides. We bent the part that goes on the case and some of the ball bearings came out so we had to get another set of drawer guides. Lee Owens- Jim Landry has made us a number of medallions to be glued on to the projects we make. Please pick up whatever you need for your chests. We have a small project to make 2 bookcases for a group called Power 225. This group is part of Healing Place church. They have a location on Winnbourne Ave and are equipping it. They are working with teenagers. We are also working with another part of this same group that has a home on Government Street. This location serves teenagers who have aged out of the foster care system. They do job training and assist their clients in finding employment. They want 3 tall dining tables and some floating shelves in their game area. These projects have to be approved. That’s it for now.
  • Education Outreach – Open

New and Ongoing Club Business

  • Wood Donation for Bird Houses- If you have suggestions for places that might donate lumber get with Art Miller. We want to get the lumber donated in June so we can get a jump on making the birdhouse kits.
  • General Web Information- We voted to eliminate the members page because it made personal information public and it would help streamline the website. Rick Albrecht is sending out an email to the club that has the current members contact information. Lee is updating the project information for this past year. That information is on the website. You should receive at least one email from Richard Robles per month. If not, please check with Richard to be sure your email is correct. Richard keeps the website information accurate and current.

Members Questions/Concerns

Safety Topic– Hal Canning shared the experience he had being injured while trying to get sheet goods off a high shelf. He received sever abrasions on his leg when the sheets fell from the shelf scraping skin off his shins. His advice is to get help when you’re handling sheet goods in high places.

Skill Topic: Wood Burning – Bob Chambers

Show-and-Tell– Harold Choate, Cody Henderson, Geoff Michelli, Doug Morgan

I retired from a career in industrial sales in 2000. One of the first things I did after retiring was to build a raised panel corner desk using oak.
