Welcome and Introduction of Guests

Officer Reports:

  • Vice-President – George Campagna- Next month’s meeting is at PMC. PMC asked for Skill Topic suggestions. One suggestion was to do it on pocket holes or Kreg equipment. Brian Stauss advised St. Tammany Woodworkers Club is planning to join us. The Festool representative has asked for expense reimbursement because the company will not pay for weekend work. The club declined the request.
  • Secretary – Harold Choate- 22 people attended the June meeting, we have 39 members on role. Jim Landry set Harold Choate up as one of the Facebook page administrators. Harold posted pictures of the June Show and Tell topics. That seemed to generate interest in the page. The members were encouraged to look at Facebook and the Website in order to generate interest and activity. Requests that come via Facebook will be shared with the members so they can participate in the requests if desired.
  • Treasurer – Rick Albrecht- Contact Rick for details.
  • Webmaster – NA
  • Community Service – Lee Owens- The IRIS project is finished and needs to be installed. Advise Lee if you can help. HAART has asked us to build 10 desks with a chair. The design is a simple one drawer desk and a student sized chair. An organization is planning to renovate the old school for the blind. They will need a lot of furniture. One item requested is a conference room table. They will get back to us when more details are available. It seems likely to happen though the timing is still up in the air. If the project does take place it will keep us busy for a while. An organization named 225 that is part of Healing Place Church is planning to start a school. A lady who is part of that effort has asked if we can build them some stuff. Lee told them we are available subject to change if we have other commitments. Richard Robles thanked everyone for stepping up to help with the projects we have consider the COVID restrictions are just recently over.
  • Education Outreach – Open

New and Ongoing Club Business

  • Website- Richard has worked with Kesh Ikuma to get the website set up. A group of 3 people, Richard, George Campagna and Lee Owens are going to serve as a review committee. Projects from the club members will be submitted to this group for review and then will be posted on the Website. Kesh is in favor of letting everyone post material. Richard said that will be considered. Plans are to have a training class at the Main Library to teach those interested how posts must be done. Kesh will conduct the class and has asked participants to bring a laptop and any items they wish to post on the website. This is an open invitation. Please email Richard if you are interested. We are looking at doing this on a weekend in a 2 hour long session. Plans are to connect the website to the Facebook page.
  • Bird Houses (Matl, Coordinator)- As of last week our Swamp Fest contact said the Parrish president still hasn’t decided if they are going to have the event. He feels like it will take place but can’t confirm it at this time. Richard asked if anyone would volunteer to coordinate acquisition of the necessary lumber and handling. Harold Choate offered to contact Holmes Building Materials to see if they would donate lumber again or if not what the costs would be. 200 kits is the number that was chosen. Richard said he has 30 something left over from the last time we did the event. We will source 60-80 10 foot 1 x 8 boards.
