Meeting Minutes – November 5, 2022

Officer Reports:

  • Vice-President – George Campagna- All skill topics and locations for 2023 are complete. More shop visits are scheduled, 3 next week. December meeting will be at Rural Life Museum again.
  • Secretary – Harold Choate- 22 people attended in September, 13 people were present at SwampFest. There were 4 visitors in September, we have 42 people on the membership role. I have been monitoring the Club Facebook Page, we have 523 people following the page with 484 likes. Log onto Baton Rouge Woodworkers in Facebook and do a friend request if you would like to keep track of what is being posted.
  • Treasurer – Rick Albrecht- Contact Rick for details.
  • Webmaster – Open
  • Community Service – Lee Owens- There are 2 active projects, benches for Joseph’s House, footlockers for One Touch Ministries, both of these organizations support men just released from prison. Jack Carmena did a commentary on one of the footlockers he and Lee Owens built. Jack and Lee built 6 boxes, delivered 5 and kept one for the demonstration. The boxes are built with security fasteners that require a special screwdriver to remove or install. We have a proposal out to a Woman’s Shelter in Ponchatoula. The other proposal is for chest of drawers for O’Brian House Women’s facility. They would like to have 16 of them. Lee hopes to have some idea of whether the projects are approved in time for the December meeting.
  • Education Outreach – Open

New and Ongoing Club Business

  • Swampfest Review- Richard Robles thanked those who worked at the SwampFest. The event organizers were very pleased with our participation and have invited us back next year. We had a long day, 9:40 am till 2:30 pm. Hays Town built 50 birdhouse kits by himself. We had 230 birdhouses to start with, we had 47 left over so we built 183 birdhouses.
  • St. Tammany Club Field Trip- BRWW is invited to go to see a plywood manufacturing operation in Pascagoula with members of the STC on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 10:30 am. Richard Robles is going. Call him if you would like to carpool.
  • Elections- Club Officers for 2023 were individually nominated and voted for by the club members present at the November meeting. Names of those elected by acclamation are: President- Richard Robles, Vice President- George Campagna, Treasurer- Rich Albrecht, Secretary- Harold Choate, Members at Large- Hal Canning, Brian Stauss.
  • Guidelines for Posting- Richard Robles reviewed the guidelines for posting articles on the website. This information was also shared in an email to the club.
